New Job!

Today I accepted a position at Premier Studios in Lenexa, Kansas. Premier is one of the most-respected production houses in Kansas City, and I consider myself pretty lucky to have this opportunity. I start in early February.

I've been at PlattForm for almost 2 1/2 years, and in the past month or two, my job satisfaction has really gone down. I decided that it was time to start looking for a new job when people who had been with the company for years were leaving in droves. I can't even begin to describe how relieved I am to be leaving.

So, the job search is officially over, after an exhausting two weeks.

Demo Reel Online

I've finished my 2007 Demo Reel, and you can find it at my portfolio site. I've also updated that site a little bit, and I have more planned for it in the near future.

And, in unrelated news, I have ordered a new computer, and it should arrive early this week. After 2 1/2 years with my 1.5ghz Powerbook, I'm stepping up to a 2.16ghz 24" iMac. Even though I'll be able to, I don't plan on installing Windows, because I really don't need it, and as it is, I get enough exposure (overexposure?) to Windows at work, with two machines running XP in my office. No thanks.

Congratulations to Rua and Derek on their engagement. As a man who's been married for well over five months, let me give you a piece of advice: Don't get married outdoors in Minneapolis in the middle of the summer.

New portfolio site online

I'll be putting the finishing touches on my new demo reel this weekend, but in the meantime, I've just finished updating seancorcoran.net with some of my recent work. And now, since it is 4:34am, I am going to bed.

New year, new look.

I've done a little bit of redesigning to the site tonight, because I was feeling bored and unproductive. The {brackets} motif comes from my new resumé {pdf}. Yes friends, I am officially looking for a new job.

As such, I've started working on a new demo reel, and will be reopening my original site, seancorcoran.net as a permanent place to find my professional portfolio, something I should have done a while ago since that domain has been unused since I bought this one. I also updated my bio, but the info has not changed.

I should probably mention the Apple iPhone and how I think it's really awesome but overpriced even though I'll probably buy one eventually anyway. Instead, I have one comment on the Cisco vs. Apple battle over the name "iPhone." Steve Jobs, in his infinite wisdom, knows that there is a chance that Apple will lose the right to use the iPhone name, but until a court decides that, Apple will continue to refer to it as such. Then, they will reluctantly rename it something like MacPhone or ApplePhone or AppleMacPhonePodPro, knowing that people will continue to just call it the iPhone. Right now, Steve is just biding his time, letting the public identify the name iPhone with his product. Like Kleenex and Q-Tips have gone from brand names to the accepted names for common household items, iPhone will be what the public calls it, even if Apple "officially" doesn't.

Speaking of Apple*, if you haven't yet read John Hodgman's The Areas of My Expertise or downloaded the audiobook {iTunes}, you should do that as soon as possible. Apple offered the audiobook version free for a few days around Christmas, and it's the funniest book I've never read. It's so good, that after I listened to the 6-hour audio version, I decided to go buy a hard copy. I haven't yet, but I will. I'm sure the book has benefits, but the audio version, read by Hodgman himself, is completely awesome. I found myself cracking up in the car or alone in my office while listening to it.

*Worst segue ever.
